Why was it created ?

in April 2015, Yahoo decided to suddenly shutdown their Image optimization API. This API was provided for FREE a way to optimize efficiently pictures.

As many websites were using this API, it lets many developers orphans of such a tool, so we decided to create a similar API for internal use.

Few weeks after this creation, we've noticed that many developers on Twitter were complaining about this loss, so we decided to make it public, for free, only with a file size limitation.

The success came rapidly, with in less than a week, thousands of optimizations every day, and a month later, a million images optimized per day.

Who's behind reSmush.it ?

The API was created by Charles Bourgeaux, CTO at French agency Maecia. He also created Bash API tools, and the reSmush.it Wordpress plugin. In January 2019, Alan Tondelier, a talented web developer (and a friend), joined the team, to create a premium approach.
